Charleston 6 weeks series and more...

Last Saturday evening, a bunch of us supported the Idaho Falls Symphony Jazz Band at Freeman Park. This band played some great swing tunes for us to dance to. KIDK Channel 3 news was there and we were on the news dancing away in the park.

We're starting our next 6 week class series on the Charleston on Friday, October 9th. The details are listed on the right side of the blog. If you have any questions feel free let me know.

Rick and I will also be teaching a day workshop in October at Idaho State University in Pocatello. The details for that event will follow soon!

Live Music :-) The Mike Banks Quartet is playing this Saturday evening, September 19th, at the Cellar. The band usually starts to play at 7:15.

No Dance Friday, September 4th --Labor Day Weekend

We've had a really good crowd the last few weeks. Our dance is on for this Friday, Aug 28th as normally scheduled, but there will be no dance next Friday during the Labor Day Weekend. Rick and I are off to Swing Out New Hampshire. It's a great event and we're happy to be attending again this year. The atmosphere at this event is amazing and it's a workshop weekend I look forward to every year. If you are curious about it this is the web site for SONH.

Also, we'll be starting our next six week series in September. As promised we will be teaching different types of partner charleston. If you're not sure what this is come ask us at a dance and we'll be happy to show you!

We hope to see everyone when we return on Friday, September 11th.

Already August...

This summer is flying by. We've been having a fun summer with swing dancers visiting our event from different parts of the country, from Washington to Virginia. Our first six week series is going really well and it's great to have people in Idaho Falls learning the swing out.

This Wednesday, August 5th, Swing Shift is playing the Community Night Out event on the Greenbelt from 7-8pm. This event is FREE including free food and ice cream (for when you are hungry after dancing). The event is located on the Greenbelt at Memorial and E street.

We've all been having a great time dancing out to live music here in Idaho Falls during the month of June. This picture is from our evening dancing by the Snake River to the Jazz House Big Band. I'm keeping an eye out for what is coming up for July. Our next weekly dance is this Friday, July 10th!

Jazz in June

Rick and I are back from Frankie95 in New York City and more or less recovered :-) It was an amazing event to be there with thousands of other lindy hoppers from all over the world. Here is a link to the video that was shown at the event of people all over the world doing the Shim Sham:

Towards the end of June there are a number of jazz events
here in Idaho Falls to dance at.

Saturday, June 20th: Jazz on the River Jazz Festival Saturday
noon-9pm,at the Snake River Landing. This is a free event!
Music starts at noon with the Mike Banks Jazz Quartet, followed by
the Craig Green Group at 2:30 pm, then The Kevin Young Jazz Quartet
at 5 pm, and closing out the day at 7 pm is the
Kristin Korb Trio from Southern California.

Tuesday, June 23rd: The Jazz House Big Band is playing the EIRMC
Snake River Concert 7-8pm. Rick and I have danced to them before
and they play classic big band music -yeah!

Saturday, June 27th: Kevin Young Jazz Quartet is playing at the
Cellar. There isn't a ton of room to dance, but the Cellar has a
great atmosphere and Rick and I really enjoy dancing to this band.

We hope to see you all out dancing soon!
