Kevin Young Jazz Quartet This Weekend

This weekend the Kevin Young Jazz Quartet is playing at the Zone, here in Idaho Falls.  The band starts at 9pm and this event is FREE!  This quartet always plays some tunes for swing dancers so come and join us this weekend.  The Zone is one of the rare venues in IF with a dance floor to practice your steps.

Great Time at the Elks Lodge

This has been a very full week;  dancing at the Cellar during the Eastern Idaho Jazz Society Jam Session, the new balboa class on Friday and on Saturday, the fundraiser at the Elks lodge with the Jazz House Big Band.

The lesson was packed with over 40 people and it was great to see a full dance floor this year.  This is an event we'd like to have more often to be able to dance to a live big band on a large dance floor. 

New Balboa Class and Dancing Stuff

By request, we are offering a five week balboa series starting Friday, Feb 4th.  This is a great dance for conserving energy, dancing at fast tempos, and dancing in tight spaces.  Contact us if you are interested!

We all had a great time at the Eastern Idaho Jazz Society Jam Session this past Wednesday.  The musicians were great and there were lots of danceable tunes.  The next Jam Session is Wednesday, February 2nd.

Swing Dancing for the New Year

CLASSES

Introduction to Swing I - This 4 class series is the starting point for anyone who would like to learn swing and never danced before.
When: Tuesday evenings 7:30-8:30pm
           First class, Tuesday, January 18th
Where: Idaho Falls School of Ballet building, 410 W. 16th Street, IF 83402
Cost: $32/per person for the four class series

SOCIAL DANCING

New Year's Eve- The only dancing I've been able to find is in Pocatello at the Portneuf Brewery. Mike Bank's Band Swing Shift is playing starting at 8:30pm. 615 South 1st Avenue, Pocatello, ID. Cost: FREE

January 5, Wednesday - Eastern Idaho Jazz Society Jam Session at the Cellar in IF. They are trying a different day of the week. This jam session starts at 7pm. 3520 East 17th Street, Ammon, ID (corner of 17th and Ammon Road)

February 5th, Saturday - SAVE THIS DATE! The Jazz House Big Band and the Skyline High School Jazz Band are playing big band music at the Elks Lodge in IF for their annual fundraiser. There is a large dance floor there and this a great event to go out and dance. Rick and I will be teaching a basic lesson before the music begins. More info to follow.
